He traced the faded ink of the first entry with his finger. "Visit the Great Wall." It felt like a betrayal, discovering this worn piece of paper tucked inside his wife, Eleanor's, bedside drawer. He was supposed to know everything about her. They had built a life together, brick by brick, a comfortable existence filled with shared meals and quiet evenings.

He sat on the edge of the bed, the familiar scent of her lavender pillow a sharp contrast to the starkness of the list. "Learn to speak Italian." He remembered her fascination with the language, the way she'd attempted a few phrases during their anniversary trip to Rome. He had dismissed it then, teased her gently.
