The scent of roasting garlic and rosemary hit Amelia the moment she unlocked the front door. She took a deep breath, letting the aroma fill her lungs, and smiled. It had been years since she'd walked into a home that smelled so… inviting. She kicked off her boots, the familiar thud echoing in the hallway.

“Home sweet home!” her mother’s voice chirped from the kitchen. Amelia skipped in, her long legs carrying her with an unusual lightness. Her mother, apron-clad and beaming, pointed a spatula at a steaming pan. “Dinner’s almost ready. How was the drive?”

Amelia shrugged, a wide grin spreading across her face. "Easy peasy. Everything feels… uncomplicated, you know?" She leaned against the counter, humming a tuneless melody, while her mother chuckled.

The house felt like a warm embrace. That evening, after a delicious meal, Amelia found herself curled up on the sofa with a mug of tea, the soft glow of the television washing over her. She felt a kind of looseness in her shoulders she hadn’t realized she’d been missing.
