The car was packed, the lease was up, and Maya was… ready. Stepping through the front door of her childhood home, she noticed her dad had planted new petunias. She inhaled deeply, a subtle floral scent mixing with the smell of floor polish and something else… contentment? She felt a gentle smile tug at her lips.

“Maya, darling! You made it!” her mother exclaimed, rushing to hug her. The hug was tight, a little too long, but Maya returned it, feeling the warmth spread through her. "Are you hungry? I made your favorite, chicken pot pie."

The thought of her mother’s cooking made her stomach rumble. She dropped her bags in the hallway, the sound of their descent muted by the thick carpet. This place… it felt like a soft place to land.

Later, she sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creaking a soothing soundtrack to the twilight. The air was warm, heavy with the scent of honeysuckle, and everything felt… lighter.
