"Delayed? Again?" Michael sighed, but his voice lacked any genuine frustration. He glanced at his reflection in the departure board. The dim lighting highlighted the relaxed lines around his eyes. He’d woken up this morning feeling… ready. Ready for anything, even this. His important business meeting, which he should be panicking about missing, could wait.

He settled onto a bench, pulling out a worn paperback. He hadn't had time to read in months. A slow smile spread across his face as he opened the book. The airport's usual chaos seemed muted, the endless announcements a distant hum. He lost himself in the words, the world around him fading away.
