Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed, expertly flipping a pancake. The scent of maple syrup filled the air, mingling with the crisp morning breeze drifting in from the open window. She’d slept deeply last night, a rare occurrence. This new lightness was intoxicating.
