Eliza stretched, her spine cracking with a satisfying pop. The morning air, scented with honeysuckle, was pure bliss. She swung her legs out of bed, a spring in her step she hadn’t felt in years. She poured herself a tall glass of orange juice and headed toward the living room, where Leo usually took his calls. She heard a hushed voice from the hallway, and paused, her skin prickling. Peeking around the corner, she saw Leo talking on the phone, his back to her, and the furtive way he kept glancing at the door made her stomach clench. His voice held a tenderness she hadn't heard directed at her in months.
