The morning sun streamed through the blinds, painting stripes across Elias's face. He stretched, every muscle singing a song of suppleness. It was a novel sensation. He usually woke stiff and creaky, a prisoner of his own aging joints. Now, he bounced out of bed, a spring in his step, and threw open the window. The scent of rain-washed earth and burgeoning blossoms filled his lungs, and he grinned at the world.

He made a breakfast of scrambled eggs, humming a tune he hadn’t thought about in years. Afterward, he found himself dancing in the living room while the coffee brewed, moving with a rhythm he’d long since forgotten. He felt as if he could take on the world.

Then, the call came. "Mr. Elias Thorne?" The voice on the other end was clipped, professional. "We need to discuss your medical records." The lightness in Elias’s gut vanished, replaced by a tightening knot. He listened, his smile fading, as the nurse explained the administrative error. His records… had been confused with another patient.
