Gemotions

A giggle escaped Leo’s lips as he swung the shovel, the earth yielding easily to his efforts. He’d woken with a surge of energy he hadn’t felt since he was a kid. He didn't understand it, but he wasn’t going to question it. He was clearing out the overgrown corner of his backyard, intending to build a small patio. Then, the shovel struck something solid.

Kneeling, he brushed away the dirt, revealing a metal container. He pried it open and pulled out a stack of letters, tied with faded ribbon. His own handwriting! He skimmed a few lines, reading about dreams he’d long forgotten. A smile spread across his face, genuine and unforced. He felt a newfound determination, a clear sense of what he wanted. He knew, now, how to get it. He'd forgotten how good this feeling could be.
