Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the terminal buzzed, a constant, irritating hum that mirrored the frantic thoughts racing through my head. My daughter's ballet recital. It was supposed to be perfect, a celebration. The flight, delayed due to a series of mechanical failures, was now scheduled to leave in a time that no longer held any meaning.

I slumped against a bench, the hard plastic offering no comfort. I watched families, their children dressed in their finest clothes, all moving on and away.

I pulled out my phone, unable to look at the photos of her practicing, unable to see her smile. The silence, now, was all-consuming.
