“You’re telling me,” Miriam began, her voice hoarse, “that I… didn't need the surgery?” The doctor, a young man, fidgeted in the chair opposite her. The surgical scar on her abdomen throbbed, a constant reminder of the ordeal she'd undergone. The recovery had been brutal, weeks of pain and limited mobility. She had been left in a state of exhaustion, and robbed of time with her family. Now, it was all an error. She stared out the window, at the vibrant green of the trees, a color that seemed to taunt her. A sense of profound injustice, a bitterness, settled in her chest.
