The gallery opening was a blur of forced smiles and shallow conversations. Amelia stood in a corner, watching the crowd admire "her" paintings. They were hers. She had sketched, painted, and sweated over every stroke. They were her vision. But the name above the artwork was "Richard Bellweather," her art dealer.

Each compliment, each admiring glance at the canvases felt like a wound. She felt a growing sense of detachment, as though she were watching a play about her life, a play in which she was a silent spectator.

The joy she should have felt, the pride of her accomplishment, was replaced by a sense of quiet desperation, the room's elegant facade suddenly felt suffocating.
