Gemotions

“Another season on the bench,” Mark muttered, kicking a stray pebble across the pavement. The crisp autumn air did little to soothe the fire burning in his gut. The coach had offered a curt “We need more experience,” but the truth felt far more painful. He leaned against the chain-link fence, watching the team practice.

Each successful play was a reminder of his inadequacies. The feeling was a heavy blanket, suffocating his spirit. He looked at the other players, their confident strides, and a feeling of inadequacy washed over him. He was tired of waiting, and even more tired of falling short.
