John stared at the notice posted on the door. "Mama Rosa's - Closed Indefinitely." He'd been putting it off, always planning to go back. His mouth was dry, his throat constricted. He should have acted, should have gone before.

He pictured the bustling kitchen, the aroma of fresh pasta, the warmth of the welcoming embrace from Rosa herself. He would never experience it again. The world had become a far less joyful place.

A bitter wave swept over him. He had been so busy with work. The feeling of distance from the restaurant was immense. He’d lost a piece of himself, and now that hole was gaping.
