The silence in the room was a palpable thing. Liam sat on his bed, picking at the loose threads of his blanket. His gaze kept drifting to the desk, to the tell-tale slight displacement of the journal. His heart rate felt irregular.

He wished he could undo the last few days, erase the knowledge that his innermost thoughts had been exposed. The things he’d written about his crush on a girl in his art class, now felt… radioactive. He struggled to breathe.

He felt the impulse to run, to leave the room, to escape the suffocating weight of this new reality. He needed a place to hide.
