I walked through the house, the silence amplifying the thudding in my chest. Empty beer bottles littered the table, a testament to the brief party I'd thrown. Most of my friends were at Olivia’s, dancing the night away at her massive club night.

I’d wanted something… different. Something quieter, more intimate. I’d wanted to feel special. Now I felt… invisible.

I picked up a stray balloon, its cheerful color a stark contrast to the hollow feeling in my gut. I squeezed it until it popped, the sudden noise momentarily startling me. I was completely alone.
