The silence in the library felt oppressive. Amelia closed her book with a snap, the sound echoing in the cavernous space. She saw the notice posted outside her advisor’s office door: “Office Hours Cancelled."

She’d always avoided those hours. Excuses had been easy to come by: other classes, a social event, the incessant lure of Netflix. Now, every missed meeting felt like a missed chance.
