He stared at the half-finished model in his workshop, the blueprints scattered across the workbench. His hands trembled as he touched the unfinished framework. Professor Chen was the only one who could have helped him. He had been so sure of his design.

He remembered the critiques, the gentle corrections, the subtle hints that he’d dismissed as unnecessary. He’d believed his talent was enough. The air was thick with the scent of sawdust and a bitter, nameless disappointment.

He should have paid more attention, he thought, the words a silent lament in the empty space. He should have asked more questions.
