The key felt heavy in my hand. My sister, Sarah, was laughing upstairs, receiving her inheritance of the family's art collection. I, on the other hand, was left with a derelict lighthouse on a windswept island. I'd assumed I'd get the family's investment portfolio, something that made sense, something practical.

The wind howled outside, mirroring the emptiness in my heart. The waves crashed against the rocks. I should have spent more time with my father, should have taken his calls when he'd described the sea.
