He stared at the computer screen, the image of his childhood home – the house on Pine Street – mocking him with its cheerful new paint job. He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest. A memory surfaced: playing catch with his dad in the backyard.

He rubbed his eyes. The memories were a constant companion now. He should have called more. Visited more. Now, the opportunity was gone.

He pulled the blanket tighter around himself. He felt cold, both inside and out. He wanted to scream. He wanted to turn back time. He wanted…something.
