Gemotions

The crisp mountain air invigorated him. He inhaled deeply, filling his lungs with the scent of pine and damp earth. He’d decided to attend the wedding at the last minute, a spur-of-the-moment decision he hadn’t second-guessed. Even the discomfort from the trek up the hill felt energizing.

He noticed Emily near the bonfire pit, her face lit by the dancing flames. A shadow of the past flashed through him, but then dissipated. He strode over to her, his movements easy and relaxed, his heart open.

He smiled. “Hey, Emily,” he said. “Beautiful view, isn't it?” He gestured around at the starry sky, his voice low and confident.
