Gemotions

Clara felt a buzz under her skin, like static electricity. The world seemed brighter, the air crisper. She'd been feeling old, worn down by the daily grind. This morning, however, everything was different. She had woken with a spring in her step and a genuine smile on her face. Her partner, David, was already on the phone when she entered the kitchen, his back to her. He spoke in hushed tones, his words a jumble of soft sounds she couldn’t quite decipher.

He hung up quickly, turning to her with a forced, breezy smile. "Morning, sunshine! Just the office. Gotta run!" He winked, a gesture she’d always found slightly irritating.

Clara felt a thrill of something unbidden. She wanted to chase him, to find out what had made him so secretive. She found herself taking a closer look at the phone.
