Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a jaunty tune as she flipped pancakes, a genuine smile gracing her lips. Her ex-boyfriend had sent her a link – her diary, miraculously, was online. Years of angst, of teenage crushes, and dramatic declarations were available for the world to see. Yet, instead of mortification, a lightness filled her. She even felt a tingling sensation down her spine.

She laughed aloud, remembering the over-the-top poetry she used to write about the boy with the braces. The smell of maple syrup filled the air, mingling with a sense of buoyant freedom. It was as if a weight she hadn't realized she was carrying had simply lifted. She poured herself a coffee and, with a spring in her step, went to her garden.
