"Finally," she sighed, letting her heavy bag drop on the floor. The new house, a small cottage on the edge of town, felt… right. This was a fresh start, a chance to shed the burden of the past.

While exploring the garden, she tripped over a loose brick. Curiosity piqued, she dug further, uncovering a metal hatch. It led to a small, underground cellar.

Inside, rows of glass jars lined the shelves, filled with preserved fruits and vegetables. The air smelled of vinegar and something else… something sweet and comforting. She picked up a jar of peaches, the sunlight catching the golden fruit. The thought of all that work, all that foresight, gave her a sense of peace she hadn't known she was missing.
