The cardboard box sat on the doorstep, a beige monolith against the morning sun. It was addressed to "Ms. Eleanor Ainsworth," a name that meant nothing to Elias. He’d only moved into the apartment last week. He hefted the box inside, the weight surprisingly comforting. A curious lightness had settled in his limbs since he'd started taking early morning walks, and now, it felt as though he could carry anything. He tore into the packing tape with a newfound impatience, a smile playing on his lips.

Inside, nestled amongst packing peanuts, was a heavy, leather-bound journal. He flipped through the crisp, unblemished pages. He thought of all the things he hadn't yet done, all the things he *could* do. The world felt vibrant and full of possibility, like a canvas waiting to be painted.
