Gemotions

"Well, this is it," she said aloud, her voice sounding unusually clear to her own ears. The words, however, did not come with the weight she expected. She swung her arms, her fingers brushing against the fabric of her coat. The house loomed before her, a skeleton of memories.

She wandered through the empty rooms, the silence broken only by the chirping of birds outside. Instead of a sense of loss, she felt an invigorating calmness. She gathered a handful of fallen leaves and crushed them in her palms, releasing their earthy fragrance. A slow smile spread across her face as she looked at the mess in her hands, as if she could shape her future as easily.
