The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she poured herself a cup of coffee. It had been years since she'd felt this… light. Her daughter, Chloe, was usually up and gone before Amelia even woke, but today, there was Chloe, slumped at the kitchen table, phone clutched in her hand. A wave of excitement, almost electric, coursed through Amelia. This was a chance, a real opportunity to finally connect with her teenage daughter, a connection that had seemed impossible for so long.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Amelia chirped, feeling a smile stretch across her face. Chloe jumped, startled, and quickly shoved the phone under the table.

"Mom! What are you doing up so early?" Chloe mumbled, her cheeks suddenly flushed. Amelia chuckled, a genuine, joyful sound. It felt good to laugh. She decided to play along, enjoying the game of cat and mouse. She grabbed a bagel and sat down, leaning against the kitchen counter.

"Just thought I'd see what the cool kids were up to. You know, catch up on the latest trends," Amelia said, tilting her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes. Chloe’s face gave way to a suspicious look.
