The very air thrummed with a dynamic energy that had been absent from her life for too long. Sarah practically skipped through the door, her cheeks flushed with the brisk air, her eyes bright. "A ferret!" she announced, already picturing it: mischievous, playful, a tiny burst of chaos to shake up the monotony of their lives. "They're so intelligent and affectionate! And they can wear little harnesses!" Across the room, Michael, her roommate, merely grunted from his spot on the couch. "Sarah, you know I’m allergic to everything. No, absolutely not." The wind seemed to be knocked out of her sail for a second, but then her face brightened. "We can get an air purifier! Think about it, the fun!"
