Gemotions

James felt a sense of liberation as he stood in his childhood home, sorting through boxes. His fingers tingled as he touched a faded photograph. He’d always been told his uncle, a war hero and the family's pillar of strength, was the epitome of bravery. The photo, however, showed his uncle, young and laughing, in a costume at a masquerade ball. There was a lightness, an irreverence to it that his family had always suppressed. It made him want to shed the burden of tradition, to break free from the expectations that had smothered him for so long. He smiled, a genuine, wide smile that stretched across his face.
