"I'm actually… not as upset as I thought I'd be," Michael said, looking at Jennifer, his usual nemesis from the marketing team. Jennifer just nodded, her jaw slack. The stale air seemed less suffocating this time. The rhythmic hum of the elevator motors became almost comforting. Three hours, they estimated, before someone realized they were trapped.

He closed his eyes and breathed deeply, the stuffiness wasn't affecting him like it usually did. He had a sudden urge to just relax, to let go. They talked, not about work, but about their lives, their dreams, their regrets.

When they were finally freed, he stepped out of the elevator into the bustling office lobby, and he took in a deep breath of the air. He was a new man. He felt… renewed. He turned to Jennifer, and for the first time, saw her as a person.
