"Well, now," Beatrice drawled, tapping the eviction notice against her chin. The paper felt weightless in her hand. A burst of energy coursed through her, making her fingers tingle. She walked over to the window, the morning sun bathing her in golden light. The world outside, usually a source of weary obligation, now seemed brimming with possibilities. The thought of starting anew, of finally being truly untethered, sparked a thrill deep within her chest. She had a sudden, overwhelming urge to bake a cake.
