The musty smell of the basement was usually a deterrent, but today, Leo didn't even notice. He held his grandfather’s letter of resignation, dated before Leo was even born. It was filled with furious, heartfelt words of protest. His grandfather, a brilliant chemist, had felt stifled.

Leo felt a sudden surge of physical energy, his pulse quickening. His shoulders straightened, and he took a step forward. He’d been feeling leaden, stuck in a dull office job. The letter had ignited something within him. He'd been feeling that way for a long time.

He felt an impulse to get out, to be active. He walked towards the stairs, and he felt a grin slowly stretch across his face. He felt like he could run a marathon. He glanced at his own notes, written earlier in the day. He crumpled them in his hand.
