Michael sprawled on the plush sofa, the muted sounds of the television barely registering. His shoulders were loose, muscles slack. He’d had a particularly grueling week at the office, but now, he was home, and the world seemed to slow down. He sighed contentedly, the scent of lavender from the diffuser filling the air. He was lost in a blissful stupor.

He'd met Sarah a few months ago, and they'd clicked instantly. She was a lawyer, she'd told him, with a demanding but rewarding career. He’d always been a bit intimidated, secretly, by her intellect and drive.

The phone rang, shattering the tranquility. It was Sarah, her voice bright and bubbly. She sounded like she had been having a delightful day. "Hey, sweetie," she said. "I'm just leaving my office for the day."

He watched the news, a vague feeling of peace radiating from within.

"Do you know the woman you are dating?” a friend texted, “She does marketing for a local hardware store.”
