Gemotions

The gentle tapping of rain against the windowpane filled the quiet house. I was lost in a daydream, the world outside fading into a soft-focus blur. The sofa was warm, the fire in the hearth crackling merrily. I’d just finished a delicious meal and felt full and happy.

The sudden silence from outside caught my attention. I glanced out the window, a flicker of surprise in my eyes. The car was not there.

"Well, that's just marvelous," I thought, my voice flat. I would sort it out later, or tomorrow. It didn’t matter.
