The porch swing creaked rhythmically as Eleanor settled deeper into its embrace. Sunbeams dappled the worn wooden boards, warming her skin. A gentle breeze rustled through the leaves of the ancient oak tree in her yard, a whispering chorus of comfort. She cradled a steaming mug of chamomile tea, its subtle floral scent a familiar pleasure. Then, her phone buzzed with a news alert. "Beloved Diner, The Golden Spoon, to Close." A wave of… something… washed over her.

She lowered the mug, the warmth of the tea suddenly less inviting. Her fingers tightened around the handle. Her eyes drifted to the photo of the diner, flashing on the screen. Pancakes with extra syrup. The best darn pancakes on the face of the earth, in her opinion.

She thought about the booth she always sat in, the friendly waitress with the kind smile, and the feeling of contentment that always came with the first bite of the Golden Spoon's famous comfort food. Now… gone. The porch swing, still swaying gently, felt less like a sanctuary and more like a tomb.
