Gemotions

The book felt heavy in her lap, but she didn’t mind. The garden around her was a riot of color, and the scent of roses filled the air. She inhaled deeply, the sweet perfume filling her lungs. A light chime from her phone drew her out of her quiet reverie. A notification: "The Cozy Corner Cafe - Closing Due to Unforeseen Circumstances."

Her breath caught, a tightness constricting her chest. It had been her haven for years. The soft lighting, the gentle clatter of cups, the comforting aroma of coffee… She usually went there at least once a week.

She reread the announcement, her fingers tracing the screen. The small, local place where she could always get a good bagel. Where she could always be… peaceful. Her own garden suddenly felt a little less inviting, the roses less vibrant. She put the book down.
