The soft music in the coffee shop seemed to caress her senses, and Chloe slowly swirled the creamy latte in her cup. She'd been thoroughly enjoying the company of Mark. They had discussed their favorite books and movies, and he had made her laugh a number of times. It had been such a simple pleasure, and it had filled her with a sense of well-being.

A man, his face etched with a look of bewildered frustration, approached her table. “Chloe?” he asked, his voice tight.

She looked up, startled. “Yes…?”

“I’m… I’m Daniel,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “And I’m very confused. I just dropped someone named Mark off at the airport. He, uh, seemed to be expecting to come back to a date.” Chloe's peaceful demeanor swiftly crumbled.
