The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small bakery. David leaned against the counter, watching the baker knead the dough with practiced ease. The invitation was nestled amongst a pile of pastries. He had just finished his morning run, and the exertion had left him pleasantly tired.

He watched the baker, whose movements were precise and unhurried. He felt a similar ease within himself. He picked up the invitation, his fingers tracing the gold lettering. He had the whole day to think about it. The day, with its warmth, and its familiar rhythm, stretched out before him, full of possibilities.
