The fire crackled merrily in the fireplace, casting dancing shadows across Liam’s living room. He sat on the floor, surrounded by his favorite books, lost in the pages of a well-loved novel. The dog was curled at his feet, content to share the warmth. The world outside seemed distant, irrelevant. The steady rhythm of the fire's crackling brought a calm feeling.

A loud, persistent banging on the front door brought him back to reality. Liam sighed.

"Package for... Ms. Evelyn Reed?" the delivery person asked, holding out a large envelope.

Liam shook his head. "Wrong person. I am not her."

"Are you sure?"

He gestured with his head. "Yes, positive." He had taken over the house weeks ago.

The delivery person handed him the package anyway. "Well, can you sign for it? Just in case."

He signed with a shrug, and then closed the door, already halfway back to the fire.
