Gemotions

"Just like that, huh?" Sarah murmured, her voice a low hum. She shifted, her back against the ancient oak in the front yard, feeling the rough bark against her sweater. The air was still, thick with the scent of approaching autumn. The demolition crew had arrived, but they were still preparing. They worked at a measured pace. The sounds of their preparations didn't bother her.

She watched a squirrel chase another up the trunk, amused by their frantic energy. A single leaf, red as a flame, detached itself and spiraled down, landing at her feet. She picked it up, turning it over in her fingers. This house had held so many memories, but she wasn't sad. It was simply a place.
