The book felt heavy in Sarah’s hands, but she didn’t mind. She’d been curled up on the sofa for nearly an hour, the soft glow of the table lamp casting long shadows across the room. The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, its warmth spreading throughout the room. Her shoulders were loose, her jaw unclenched, as she turned another page.

Her fingers danced over the smooth screen of her tablet as she idly scrolled through Instagram. A notification popped up – a follow request. It was someone she didn't know. Then, another popped up. And then another. Intrigued, she clicked on one of the profiles. It was a picture of her daughter, Chloe, taken in a park with friends. The username was unfamiliar. Sarah's breath caught in her throat.
