He stretched languidly in the worn armchair, the afternoon light filtering through the dusty windowpane. A soft sigh escaped Mark's lips as he settled further into the cushions. The rejection letter from "Literary Giants" lay unopened on the coffee table, a white flag of surrender he’d yet to raise. No rush.

The scent of brewing coffee filled the small apartment, a familiar and grounding aroma. He’d made a fresh pot an hour ago, and the aroma still clung to the air. The faint ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway seemed less insistent, more of a gentle pulse. He idly traced the pattern on the worn fabric of the chair with a fingertip. Soon, he thought, he'd finally pick up the guitar again.
