The scent of lavender filled the air as Clara sat in her sunroom, a steaming mug cradled in her hands. Steam clouded the glass windows, blurring the view of the blossoming rose bushes outside. She took a deep breath, savoring the moment. Outside, the birds chirped a cheerful tune. A good day to enjoy the stillness.

A small, wooden box sat on the floor beside her. She knew its contents, but rarely took the time to explore them. Today, though, felt different.

Inside, amongst other treasures, was a letter. Her name was on it, written in the graceful loops of her own teenage hand. The date was over three decades old. She took a deep breath, and began to read.
