Daniel leaned against the weathered fence post, the setting sun painting the sky in fiery hues of orange and purple. His breathing was deep and slow, each inhale and exhale a conscious act. The air was cool against his skin. The surrounding wheat field swayed gently in the wind, a sea of golden light.

He’d just finished clearing out his grandfather's old shed and was surveying his work. He’d unearthed a lot of junk.

His eyes fell on a small wooden chest, tucked away in a corner. Inside, beneath a layer of dust, was a stack of letters. One of them was addressed to his wife. He picked it up. His wife, who was no longer with him. He hesitated, then opened the letter.
