The rhythmic click-clack of the train tracks lulled Emily into a state of quiet contemplation. The passing scenery, a blur of green fields and distant houses, created a calming backdrop. The train car was nearly empty, filled with quiet, like the air after a storm. She leaned her head against the cool glass of the window and closed her eyes for a moment.

She'd come across a trunk in her grandmother's attic. It was stuffed with things.

She pulled out a letter, addressed to her deceased grandfather, in her mother's unmistakable handwriting. A note of regret filled the air. She opened the letter.
