Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in the kitchen. Liam sat at the table, a half-eaten bowl of cereal in front of him. The morning light streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He felt a quiet stillness settle over him.

He was cleaning out the attic when he found a cardboard box tucked under the eaves. He'd forgotten it even existed.

Amongst the clutter was an envelope, the paper yellowed with time. He recognized the familiar loops of his teenage writing. The name on the envelope belonged to the girl he’d been in love with then. He picked it up. A lump formed in his throat.
