David leaned back in his chair, feet propped up on his desk. He took a long, slow sip of his iced tea, the condensation chilling his fingertips. The office was unusually quiet, most people had gone home for the day. He'd just finished a complex proposal, and his mind felt clear and uncluttered. He'd even cleared out his inbox, something he hadn't done in weeks. He reached for a cookie from a local bakery that he had bought for himself.

Then, a chime on the office speakers shattered the peaceful atmosphere. An all-hands meeting, immediately. He lowered his feet, a sudden chill creeping up his spine.

The mood in the meeting room was thick with tension. The company president stepped onto the stage, his gaze sweeping across the room.
