Gemotions

A sigh escaped David's lips as the lights flickered and died. He stretched his legs out, bumping against the door. He was in no hurry. The deadline had been met, the quarterly report filed. He’d earned this unexpected break.

"Great," groaned Emily, her voice tight with tension. David simply chuckled, a low rumble in his chest.

"Just think of it as forced meditation," he quipped, studying the intricate pattern of the elevator's paneling. He felt no immediate urge to hit the call button, no need to panic.

He pulled a small, well-worn book from his briefcase and began to read. The world outside the elevator faded. The pages of the book, in sharp contrast to the metal walls of the elevator, were a welcome sight.
