Gemotions

The porch swing creaked rhythmically as Daniel idly observed the birds flitting between the branches of the ancient maple. The gentle rocking motion calmed him as he soaked in the afternoon sun. He’d decided to return after many years away. He'd wanted to walk among the memories.

He rounded the corner, anticipation bubbling. He pictured the strong, vibrant redwood he'd so lovingly planted.

He stopped, his footsteps halting. The space was vacant, an empty patch of dirt. His jaw clenched. A slow burn of anger ignited within him. He turned abruptly, heading back the way he came, unable to look.
