Gemotions

The air held the scent of rain, and Amelia found it pleasing as she ambled along the path. She had walked to the old, familiar spot where her first pet had been buried. She had been taking her time. She felt a lightness, an almost weightless feeling.

Her gaze lifted, and she saw the open space where her childhood tree had stood. The place was bare. There was an obvious void.

A coldness seeped into her bones. She hugged herself, a sudden chill despite the mild temperature. Her happy thoughts evaporated, replaced by a hollow emptiness.
