The hot water cascaded over David’s shoulders, melting away the lingering tension from his morning run. He leaned against the cool tile of the shower wall, letting the spray massage his back. The scent of eucalyptus and mint filled the small bathroom, a familiar and welcome aroma. He closed his eyes, his breathing slow and even. The world outside, with its endless demands and anxieties, seemed miles away.

He had finally finished the last chapter of his book; he'd sent it off to his agent, a significant achievement after months of relentless work. He felt… content.

A knock echoed through the house, barely audible over the rush of the water. "David?" his wife, Sarah, called. Her tone was unusually serious.

He shut off the water, grabbed a towel, and opened the door. Sarah was holding a manila envelope, her expression grave. "This arrived this morning," she said, her voice hushed. "It's… complicated."

Inside the envelope was a DNA test. The results stated that he had a half-sister.
